Ryan Ledson On ‘Really Important’ Final Day

3 May 2024

Ryan Ledson feels it’s important North End put in a “big performance” in the final game of the season, to take them into the summer.

PNE head to The Hawthorns on Saturday to face West Brom, who are looking to secure a spot in the Play-Offs.

While the Lilywhites can no longer reach the top six, manager Ryan Lowe has been quite clear about how a positive result needs to be taken, and that’s something midfielder Ledo agrees with.

He said: “I think it’s important and I think we need to. We definitely need a positive performance and hopefully a positive result.

“Obviously the last few games have been nowhere near the levels we should be so it’s down to us now to put on a performance, and obviously they’ve got a lot to play for with trying to get into the Play-Offs so it’s a big game.

“You want to finish the season, especially the last game, with a positive result and a positive performance because then you go into the summer thinking about it.

“It’s not a nice place to be when we’re on a bit of a bad run of form, but there’s only us that can get out of it. I think it’s really important that we do put in a big performance Saturday.”

Heading into the final day, PNE have accumulated the same amount of points as the 2022/23 campaign, and the gaffer wants to see more collected at The Hawthorns to ensure tangible progress has been made.

There’s a lot riding on the game for West Brom, with the Baggies potentially needing three points to extend their season, as Hull City continue their top six push.

Elsewhere, the automatic promotion race between Ipswich Town and Leeds United has also gone to the final day.

On the quality of the division, Ryan said: “I think it’s been right up there. I think some of the teams up there have been quality.

“You just look at the top six and there’s some big, big teams in there, all former Premier League teams.

“I know Ipswich have done remarkably well. They’re just on a journey at the minute where they’re unstoppable and it looks as though they’re gonna go up.

“To be fighting in and around the top half of the table, in the top ten, and only a few games missing out on the Play-Offs, I think is a step in the right direction.”

For North End, there’s been some big wins throughout the season and enjoyable days at both Deepdale and on the road.

Asked about his best memories from the campaign, Ryan said: “For me, I think it would have to be early on. I think Stoke away was a big day.

“We were top of the league and it was an incredible away performance, so I enjoyed that.

“Leeds on Boxing Day obviously was a great game. Ipswich at home was a good one as well so we’ve had some great times this season and we’re looking to carry that on into next season.”
